Plans to construct the Calgary Alberta Temple were announced 4 October 2008. Church leaders broke ground 15 May 2010 and Thomas S. Monson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the temple on Sunday, 28 October 2012. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Calgary and the surrounding communities from Banff in the west to Drumheller in the east.
The exterior of the three-story, 33,000-square-foot temple features grey granite from China.
