Plans to construct the Edmonton Alberta Temple were announced August 11, 1998. Church leaders broke ground February 27, 1999, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Edmonton Alberta Temple December 11, 1999. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Edmonton, Alberta.
The exterior of the 994-square-metre temple is light grey granite quarried in Quebec.
