Plans to construct the Halifax Nova Scotia Temple were announced May 7, 1998. Church leaders broke ground October 12, 1998, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Halifax Nova Scotia Temple November 14, 1999. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and parts of northern Maine.
The 994-square-metre temple’s exterior is white Bethel granite.
