Plans to construct the Halifax Nova Scotia Temple were announced 7 May 1998. Church leaders broke ground 12 October 1998, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Halifax Nova Scotia Temple 14 November 1999. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and parts of northern Maine.
The 10,700-square-foot temple’s exterior is white Bethel granite.
