JustServe volunteers participated in the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Annual Conference and Trade Show, held May 29–31, 2025, at the Rogers Centre Ottawa in Ontario. The volunteers helped hundreds of mayors, deputy mayors, city councillors and other municipal government officials learn more about how JustServe can partner with their municipalities to promote volunteerism.

Meagan Sandor, a JustServe specialist in Ontario, stated that “attendees’ interest was piqued” when they learned that JustServe helps volunteers find organizations with service opportunities that align with their unique values, interests and skills. They were especially intrigued to find out that they can easily add a JustServe link to their municipality’s website for free.
We met more than 500 municipal government officials who want to learn more about how JustServe can partner with their municipalities,” said Sandor. “A large number of people downloaded the JustServe app and were excited to search for volunteer opportunities in their community. Many participants were also interested to learn more about how JustServe can help with disaster relief and recovery efforts.”
Sarah Mosaico, a JustServe specialist in Alberta, has firsthand experience with the value of the disaster relief feature. “We’ve been able to support relief efforts for Alberta’s wildfires,” said Mosaico. “For Jasper, in 2024, JustServe.org was able to communicate needs that volunteers could meet, such as donations of water and new footwear. We were also able to work with other community groups, which was truly inspiring. One of the best things about JustServe is that it helps us come together to look beyond ourselves and synergize our efforts.”
Moving forward, Sandor said JustServe will hold free webinars to highlight how its services can benefit municipalities and answer their questions. JustServe will also engage in one-on-one work with municipalities that want to form a partnership.
Sandor explained that there are many reasons why working with JustServe is beneficial for a municipality: “We’ve found that many municipalities don’t have a volunteer tab on their website, but many residents will go to their municipality’s site to search for volunteer opportunities. We can provide a direct link to JustServe’s search page that can be included on a municipality’s website, making it simple for residents to find out what volunteer opportunities are available in their community.”
Sandor further indicated that JustServe is provided as a free resource to help promote unity within communities. “We believe that communities that serve each other are stronger, and those are the kinds of communities we want to live in,” she said. “We feel this is a message that resonates with elected officials as they seek to serve their constituents.”
