In a very rare performance, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square will present Handel’s Messiah in its entirety. The Easter performance will coincide with Good Friday, 18 April, and Saturday, 19 April 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in the Tabernacle and will also be the first time in 10 years that the full choir and orchestra will perform at the Easter concert. Mack Wilberg, music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, will conduct the event.

Although the music is most often associated with Christmas, Handel’s Messiah originally debuted as an Easter performance in the Musick Hall in Dublin on 13 April 1742. The work tells the story of Christ’s life, from His birth to His death and eventual Resurrection.
Registration for tickets to the concert opened Tuesday, 11 March and all tickets were claimed within seven and a half minutes. Due to this overwhelming response, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square have announced two additional seating opportunities, as well as live streaming during the performance and on-demand during the Easter weekend, making it possible for everyone to enjoy this rare performance.
