The Canadian Interfaith Conversation has partnered with the University of Toronto Multi-faith Centre to produce the biennial Our Whole Society (OWS) conference. The event is scheduled April 28–30, 2019, at the University of Toronto. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a sponsor of the conference and an active participant in the Canadian Interfaith Conversation, which represents over 40 religious organizations.
Russell M. Nelson, president of the Church, teaches, “God loves all His children equally". It follows, therefore, that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints see interfaith gatherings as a form of family reunion where God’s children can safely, respectfully and lovingly engage.
Additionally, President Nelson explains, “Members of our church often join with other like-minded citizens, regardless of religious persuasion, in support of worthy causes and humanitarian projects”. One such worthy cause is the national OWS conference.
The 2019 OWS theme is “Identity and Common Ground in an Age of Transition.” Sub-themes are “Rethinking Identity — What It Means to Be Human,” “Extremism and Polarization” and “Technology Values and Society.” Keynote speakers include the Honourable Bob Rae, Dr. Solange Lefebvre and Dr. Michael Ruse. Drs. Eric and Catherine Jarvis, Church public affairs representatives for the Quebec and Ottawa region, will be directing the workshop “Addressing Religious Intolerance in Daily Life.”
The conference will bring together civic leaders, academics, public servants, students, religious leaders, lawyers and engaged citizens to discuss how we can build our whole society. For additional information please see www.interfaithconversation.ca.
