On April 2, 2023, President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced a temple will be built in Lethbridge, Alberta. The Lethbridge Alberta Temple will be Canada’s 10th temple and is one of 15 new houses of the Lord announced by President Nelson during the final session of the April 2023 general conference.
“Jesus Christ is the reason we build temples,” President Nelson said. “Each is His holy house. Making covenants and receiving essential ordinances in the temple, as well as seeking to draw closer to Him there, will bless your life in ways no other kind of worship can. For this reason, we are doing all within our power to make the blessings of the temple more accessible to our members around the world.”
Temples established by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are considered houses of the Lord, places of holiness and peace separate from the preoccupations of the world. They provide a place where Church members make formal promises and commitments to God. They are also the place where the highest sacraments of the faith occur — the marriage of couples and the “sealing” of families for eternity.
Other temples in Canada are those in Calgary Alberta, Cardston Alberta, Edmonton Alberta, Halifax Nova Scotia, Montreal Quebec, Regina Saskatchewan, Toronto Ontario, Winnipeg Manitoba and Vancouver British Columbia.
