The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints operates visitors’ centres throughout the world to help explain the Church’s beliefs to the public. These free visitors’ centres are usually located near a temple or historic site.
Each visitors’ centre is unique, but all of them highlight the commitment of Latter-day Saints to follow Jesus Christ. Other subjects include the purpose of life and the importance of families. These beliefs are communicated through displays, audiovisual presentations and interactive kiosks. There are also Church missionaries available at many centres to answer questions. Visitors can spend as much or as little time as they would like at the centre, depending on their schedules.

UPDATE: Church Announces Changes to Visitors' Centres

Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have announced a change in operations to three visitors' centres around the world.
The New Zealand Temple Visitors' Centre will close in July 2018 (at the same time as the New Zealand Temple) for extensive renovations. Its function will merge with the new Church History Centre and Museum in Hamilton, New Zealand.
The Park City Family Tree Centre will close January 31. It was originally opened in conjunction with the 2002 Winter Olympics. Those wishing to research their ancestry can continue to do so at the multiple family history centers in the Salt Lake City area.
Finally, as of December 31, 2017, the London Temple Visitors' Centre is now open as a waiting area for non-temple patrons but no longer serves as a traditional visitors' centre. The Hyde Park Chapel Visitors' Centre will continue to welcome guests in the London area.
These decisions have been made after considering the best use of the Church's resources as well as the needs and demands of each area.
UPDATE: Mesa Temple Visitors' Centre to Close in May 2018

The Mesa Temple Visitors' Centre will close May 19 (at the same time as the Mesa Arizona Temple) for extensive renovations. At this point, the future use of this visitors' centre is undetermined. Church leaders will make a decision based on the needs and demands of the area.
