New Mission Leaders Begin Their Service in Canada

Three couples have been assigned as mission leaders in Canada and will begin their three-year service in July 2024.

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called these new mission presidents and companions to serve in three of 450 missions worldwide — the most in Church history.

Canada Calgary Mission

Peter H. Barth, 66, and Heather H. Barth, five children, Parleys 5th Ward, Salt Lake Parleys Stake: Canada Calgary Mission, succeeding President Lance R. Davis and Sister Karen J. Davis. Brother and Sister Barth currently serve as service mission leaders. Brother Barth is a former stake presidency counselor, high councilor, bishop, bishopric counselor, ward Young Men presidency counselor, Young Men adviser, Gospel Doctrine teacher and missionary in the California Sacramento Mission. He was born in Salt Lake City to Fredrick Hans Barth and Maria Martha Mueller Barth.

Sister Barth is a former stake Young Women president, ward Relief Society president, ward Young Women president, Sunday School teacher, Young Women adviser and Primary music leader. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Owen Davis Hall and Carol Maile Clissold Hall.

Canada Winnipeg Mission

Warren Barnes, 62, and Kathy Barnes, four children, Eugene 1st Ward, Eugene Oregon Stake: Canada Winnipeg Mission, succeeding President Brent D. Carr and Sister Lorri M. Carr. Brother Barnes is a Sunday School teacher and temple ordinance worker and former mission presidency counselor, stake president, high councilor, bishop, bishopric counselor, ward Young Men president and missionary in the England Leeds Mission. He was raised in Provo, Utah, by Howard William Barnes and Janet Gordon Barnes.

Sister Barnes is a ward Relief Society president and temple ordinance worker and former stake Young Women president, stake Relief Society presidency counselor, stake Primary presidency counselor, ward Young Women president, ward Relief Society presidency counselor, ward Primary presidency counselor and seminary teacher. She was born in Salt Lake City to Richard Karl Sager and Lois Johnson Sager.

Canada Montréal Mission

A. Craig Sorensen, 57, and Melanie Sorensen, six children, The Woodlands 1st Ward, The Woodlands Texas Stake: Canada Montréal Mission, succeeding President David S. Harkness and Sister Lisa L. Harkness. Brother Sorensen is a stake president and temple ordinance worker, and a former stake presidency counselor, bishop, bishopric counselor, branch president, Scoutmaster, ward Young Men president, seminary teacher and missionary in the Belgium Brussels Mission.

He was born in Logan, Utah, to Alton Clair Sorensen and Norda Geneal Gardner Sorensen.

Sister Sorensen is a nursery leader and a former ward Young Women president, ward Young Women presidency counselor, ward Primary presidency counselor, Young Women adviser, Primary teacher and temple ordinance worker. She was born in Enid, Oklahoma, to Jonathan Kirk Graff and Gloria Ann Graff.
