Plans to construct the Toronto Ontario Temple were announced 7 April 1984. Church leaders broke ground 10 October 1987, and President Gordon B. Hinckley, then a counsellor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Toronto Ontario Temple 25 August 1990. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Ontario.
