Two Canadians Called as Area Seventies During April 2023 General Conference

Two Canadians were called as Area Seventies during the April 2023 general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: Elder Robert Mendenhall of Edmonton, Alberta, and Elder Dominic Sénéchal, of Mascouche, Quebec.

Area Seventies are called and ordained to preach the gospel and serve as “special witnesses” of Christ to the world. Seventies, whose offices are mentioned in the New Testament, are also known as “travelling ministers.”

Elder Robert W. Mendenhall

Elder Robert W. Mendenhall was named an Area Seventy and a member of the Tenth Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the April 2023 general conference. He is responsible for the North America Central Area, Edmonton and Winnipeg co-ordinating councils.

Elder Mendenhall received a bachelor of arts degree in political science and history from the University of Lethbridge in 1982, a juris doctorate from the University of Saskatchewan in 1985 and a master of law degree from Brigham Young University in 1995. He has worked as a lawyer for private law firms, several national banks and other financial institutions in Canada.

Elder Mendenhall served a full-time mission in the Ohio Columbus Mission. He has also served in a number of Church callings, including branch president, high councillor, bishop, stake president and president of the Edmonton Alberta Temple.

Robert Wayne Mendenhall was born in Cardston, Alberta, on May 28, 1959. He married Dixie Marie Cahoon in 1981. They are the parents of five children. Elder and Sister Mendenhall reside in Sherwood Park, Alberta.

Elder Dominic R. Sénéchal

Elder Dominic R. Sénéchal was named an Area Seventy and a member of the Tenth Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the April 2023 general conference. He is responsible for the North America Northeast Area, Montreal Co-ordinating Council.

Elder Sénéchal studied operations and logistics management at HEC Montréal. He has worked as an account manager for Nortel Networks, a production manager for Flextronics, a planning manager for Air Canada and a director of logistics for Bombardier Aerospace. He currently works as director of planning and forecasting for Hydro-Québec.

Elder Sénéchal served a full-time mission in the Utah Salt Lake City Mission. He also has served in a number of Church callings, including stake Young Men president, elders quorum president, high councillor, bishop and stake president.

Dominic René Sénéchal was born in Laval, Québec, on November 25, 1974. He married Marie-Lyne Lallemant in 1996. They are the parents of five children. Elder and Sister Sénéchal reside in Mascouche, Québec.
